Red Carpet Dresses

Celebrities almost always look a million dollars as they walk the red carpet, but never forget that their secret to look so fabulous is a lot of preparation and seeking advice from the experts.

Red carpet dresses are usually long and elegant gowns with expensive detailing, and glamorous diamond jewellery. But these looks are easy to recreate yourself for a lot less money, if you put in the time to search for the perfect dress.

Start by going to your nearest evening party dress store, and trying on some different styles, colours, cuts and fabrics. Have an open mind, as you might be surprised by what looks good on you. Take some photographs, so you can think about what particular elements of the gowns you love.

Go online and browse through the many websites full of inspirational, gorgeous dresses to find your perfect style. Then once you have found it and own it, pick the accessories. Start with sparkly jewelry, a big statement wrist cuff and some long chandelier style earrings will make your choice of clothing seem more expensive.

If you aren't sure about what might suit you, or you just want another person's opinion on what dress styles you should look out for, then be sure to call on an image consultant.

These consultants will be an expensive way to looking a million dollars, but can often save a lot of time and stress by helping you sort out your outfit in just one day. They will help you shop and let you know what colours will compliment your skin tone.

Make sure to book in an appointment at the hairdressers to have your hair styled for the occasion, perhaps a red carpet themed prom, or an evening military ball. The way to creating a luxurious look is all in the hair; a stylist can make it more voluminous and shiny, and will give you a different look than normal.

The same goes for any body preparation, if you get a professional to do it (or even a friend), then you will feel much more glam on the night.

Recreate the look of America Ferrera at the Golden Globes 2009,  by picking a strapless dress with sparkly detail in a silver shade (of course, not all of us can afford Oscar de la Renta). Compliment the look with shimmery eye make-up and a simple, classic relaxed updo hairstyle.

Jessica Alba wore a elegant plum Marchesa dress to the 80th Annual Oscar Award Ceremony. With its empire waistline and her hair in trendy braids she looked every part the superstar.

At the FOX Winter All-Star Party, Lisa Edelstein wore a fab silver strapless dress by J. Mendel. Mixed with a cute pair of peep-toe bow heels, black nail polish and a black clutch bag, this screen goddess looked just the part.

The InStyle/Warner Bros Golden Globes After Party saw many well-dressed celebrities, including Emily Deschanel, who wore an orange dress with a gold embellished belt and cute tear drop earrings. Also, Paris Hilton wore a bright azure blue floor length gown with splashes of dazzling jewels on it, as well as sparkling matching earrings and clutchbag.
